Erika Weaver, Nashville StylisT -"FASHION IS ART"
"FASHION IS ABOUT BEING CREATIVE. IT'S A FORM OF ART. FASHION IS ART. IT'S ABOUT MAKING IT YOUR OWN AND GOING FOR IT." - ERIKA WEAVER
Which is exactly what Tennessee Native Erika Weaver is doing - she's going for it.
Erika was raised in Tullahoma, a small town in south central Tennessee. Her passion for style came at an early age. In high school, she put together her outfits for the next day from head to toe and would even go through her mother's wardrobe to find her vintage inspiration to mix with her current styles.
"MY MOM KEPT REALLY GREAT PIECES FROM THE 70'S AND 80'S. A LOT OF STATEMENT ITEMS" SAYS ERIKA. "I KNEW IT WAS PROBABLY A LITTLE FUNKY, BUT I'D JUST GO FOR IT."
While attending college in Murfreesboro, TN for Fashion and Marketing Erika landed a merchandising internship in Nashville with Manuel Couture. Manuel, often referred to as the "Rhinestone Rembrandt", is the designer of many custom pieces for Johnny Cash, Kid Rock, Dolly Parton, Elton John and Zac Brown Band - just to name a few. While assisting Manuel in merchandising, designing and "rhinestoning" she realized that her true passion was in the art of styling. Erika's time with Manuel Couture has served as constant inspiration for her, reminding her daily of his goal to "make life happen and make dreams come true."
Erika's experience with Manuel led her to start a blog, take a position at e.Allen Boutique and begin her styling work for various photoshoots and videos. But her work doesn't stop with creative projects. Erika is working diligently to build her portfolio of Nashville professionals, budding artists and personal friends.
I had the pleasure of participating in a styling session with Erika. She visited my closet and pulled multiple items - some of which I hadn't worn in ages (and was considering giving away) to create a beautiful ensemble, one that I never would have come up with on my own. Erika describes her personal style as bohemian chic and loves to mix a vintage or symbolic piece with a current trend. When it comes to her clients her goal is to show them all of the possibilities that exist in their current wardrobe and to help them find new pieces that fit their current style but might be a little bit out of their box.
"I always want my clients to say, "Wow! I never would have thought to wear this but it makes me feel super confident! It's never about making clients conform to my personal style, but taking their style and enhancing it!"
The Nashville fashion scene is growing at a rapid pace and the city is really paving it's way into the industry. More people are relocating here for fashion and more locals are searching for it. This is a recipe for a community of collaborations and creativity with a splash of southern hospitality.
Over next few months Erika will continue building her portfolio of personal clients while styling for video and photo shoots. Erika is a available whether you need a wardrobe re-do or a simple look for a special evening. You can view her portfolio at the link below or by following her on Instagram at @erikalweaver!
